As I work on compiling the “Waterfront” dvd, (our 14th disk) my brother and I contemplated the future. We still occasionally sell the odd pre-printed kit. Some of our customers don’t have printers (or computers).
This takes a lot of valuable time and effort to do this. My possition is we should stop doing it. Brother Dave, good soul that he i,s just can’t turn anyone away. This triggered another string of thought. DVD’s and disks in general are fast becoming obsolete.
That’s right, in a year or two at mos,t disks will be gone. Even now it’s not unusual to see a new computer without a DVD drive. Not a disaster for us because a vast majority of kits are sold as downloads but a significant number of people collect the disks. They buy them as soon as they come out sight unseen. (No complaints so far.)
But what will we sell at big hobby shows? SD cards, thumb drives? What ever media is on the horizon? Our 15th collection (Mine structures) might just be a jump drive.
Food for thought.
