Howdy,

One of my favorite sites for building models has decided to have a contest, not sure if I should post this but I thought since there are many really good builders here I thought I'd post this. A lot of folks think you have to build with Wood, Styrene, or plastic to have a good model but we know better. Anyone interested? The site is www.thewhistlepost.com

Scratchbuilt shed contest

1. It must be a shed.
2. The shed must have a foot print of 12ft x 18ft (3.7m x 5.5m)
3. Style, or materials used, are completely up to you.
4. Final photos must show the structure alone, without scenery (real or modeled).
That is it!
You can find or make your own plans……or just wing it!

The contest begins Saturday October 20th and runs through Sunday November 21st.

All contestants are required to start a progress thread in the "Craftsman's Bench" forum, with your username and "shed contest" in the title, example:
"Steve's shed contest entry"

Good luck! and have fun!

Steven, I went to the forum and decided I might enter so I started a new 'Mine office shed" building. Since i have to document the thread, i wasn't planning on creating a kit but that's what happened. Even though It's a kit now, it started as a scratch build. I guess a kit is a scratch build if you create the kit from scratch right?
We'll see what the judges say.

I would think so and as always you could also change something about the kit to make it an orginal if you wished, change the size of the window or something. I remembered seeing something last spring that gave me an idea about converting a shed into a building with a purpose. I can remember in my head what it looked like so I'll start with that.
If you have followed my modeling thread you will remember that I'm very new to model building, and very much a beginner but I'm going to try.
The main thing for me is to have fun! I know that my efforts will be recieved with a laugh or two but I'm doing it for the fun.

I too will be entering the contest, I will be using clever model textures, windows and doors to create my entry. I have seen a few really nice railroad sheds in Western Massachusetts where I live that I think I will photograph and use as prototypes. One of my neighbors has an old wood shed, it leans to one side and the paint is all chipping off but it also would make a nice model. I will be setting up my forum log in the next few days. I see that they set the contest dates of Oct 20 to Sept 13 does that mean we cannot start the posts until then ?

You might ask that question in their forum, I for one am glad for the future dates. I've just started getting my ideas together and nothing on paper yet
