Discussion > old freebies

HI, I love your freebies, but is there any way I can get your old ones? In your older posts in your discussion and blog, I have seen a lot of cool freebies, but I wanted to know how I can get them. Once you remove them from the freebies page, are they lost forever?

By the way, I really love your models, and they are really the best card models you can get. They really have improved my layout.

I don't have e-mail at the moment, so I was wondering if you could respond via a post in the discussion. Just mention CSA in the title.

Thanks, and happy modeling!

Hi again, just one more thing! I need some industrial roof vents for a factory I am making.

I was wondering if you would post them on freebies.

I liked the ones in Greezy Gus's, but I don't really want the rest of the stand. Thanks,

Clark

Well, I guess I should "uncheck" notify via E-mail so I don't get discussion comments, but I felt led to respond, CSA! Skippy's Hot Dogs has similar vents to Greezy's and it's $1 cheaper. . . . At some point, you may want to step up to the cash register; I'm thinking the Clever Bros are in this business to make a little money. And buying a model or DVD encourages them to continue developing new models, which I like.

The Steel Industrial Buildings DVD would have some buildings with vents and it has a couple of "extras" that are vents; it's about $40. Likewise, the Jackson Collection Vol. 3 has vents as "extras" and it's $20.

Granted, I've downloaded my fair share of freebies from the Bros and have made a few of them. That has enticed me into purchasing a few models which have been enjoyable to make.

Good luck.

Hi Clark
I want to be as sensitive as I can here, but Mack is right. The whole reason we put any Freebies out there is to allow potential customers a very low cost opportunity to experience paper modeling at it best. The key word here is potential. We are hoping that folks will have such a good time with the freebies, that they will come back for more with their wallets. It takes a lot of time and effort to develop kits, free or otherwise and we hope to get some return on our investment. Now, to actually answer your question, typically, many of the freebies end up as parts of DVD's or as stand alone downloads. Sometimes they make a second appearance as a freebie. That is the case with the chimney. We took it down after having it available for a while and had so many requests for it that we put it back up. We thought about just selling it outright, but so many folks had already gotten it for free, we just couldn't charge for it. I'm sure we will charge for it someday, but not yet.

I don't know about other folks but each time a "freebe" is posted I do download it and then I click on the "donate" button and leave a contribution. I just feel that the Clever brothers should be thanked in some way for their efforts.

As for me I have purchased every DVD and every kit published. I suspect that there are others that have done the same. I for one want to see the 'Clever' web sit up and running for a very long time.

Clark, welcome to the world of paper models. It is fun and a lot less expensive then wood craftsman kits to be sure.

To the Clevers,' thanks for so many great models.

mwbailey, Dave, and John. You're right, I guess I am a bit
of a cheapskate!!!

About the vents, I guess I was a bit of a jerk
too!
Sorry for being like that!

If it's any reconciliation, I
found some cool model card building websites that have free
printable ho and n scale shipping containers. I think you guys might
like them.

here they are :

http://home.online.nl/schatborn/

and

http://www.igshansa.de/igsdownload.html

Both websites are in Dutch, but they have some English in them to guide you around.

The first web-site, if you scroll down has a ton of graphic and photographed
40' and 20' shipping containers. Bad news! they're only in
n-scale! However, you can blow them up using Microsoft word. For scale,
you can click "view" and click on "one full page" or something similar.
Then you can rotate the image using the circle on the stick that is sticking
out of the square or rectangle in which your shipping container is located.
then blow up the picture using the dots at the corners. If you press
the dots on the sides and not the dots on the angles and drag out the photo,
the image will become stretched. Therefore, make sure you click and drag out
the dots on the angles, to expand the image proportionally.

If you don't have Microsoft word, you should really consider getting it.
It is a great and inexpensive way to put wording on your buildings and other card models

Here is another great link-a website that has by far the best modeling tips
I have seen!

here it is:

http://www.trainweb.org/danderso/tips/scenery-tips.html

Pay special attention to the tip titled "tires".
It tells how to mass-produce tires for a scrap tire pile out of
black soaker hose and automotive vacuum hose.

Other than that, thanks for the warm welcome, I hope you enjoy the tips.

Happy modeling!
