Discussion > Clever Models Training

I know that most of the folks here are well experienced card stock modelers and I very much appriciate their work, but I would like to have more knowledge. I am somewhat surprised that none of our modelers here have put together a building video for the benefit of others. I understand that some "Build and take" modeling has been done at the trade shows but a lot of us are not in an area to take advantage of such events.
How about someone someone video a "construction video" showing us cardstock believers how to make a "better model"? Just an idea

They are not videos, but I started at least 4 discussion forums on mrrforums.com that show various steps along the way to a finished cardstock structure. The threads are started under the name of jerryl. Go to the last picture to see if you like how it turned out. If you do, then start from the beginning. There are a few tips along the way also. Either the Book Store or the small house was my first attempt at a Clever model. The learning curve is short, & you can add as much detail as you want....Have Fun!

I also have a tutorial on my J&RG FaceBook page. It is some 16 installments and shows how I went about building the hotel for Thom and Dave. It might be useful as well.

You will have to scroll back a bit but there is lots of cardstock stuff there. Sorry, no video. I did a hands-on clinic at the NMRA Nationals in Cleveland a few weeks ago, will do another one in Plant City, Florida, in about a month. I am told that I will also be giving a hands-on at the NMRA Nationals in Portland, OR, next year as part of the Modeling With The Masters program.

Steven the best advice I can give, other then what these gentlemen have given is to jump in. Go ahead and make mistakes and discoveries. No one here is very critical and you can always print more and start again.
We are always happy to have new folks join in. You'll be sharing tips of your own before long.

Actually, I would be quite happy to make a video on cardstock modeling but I don't think that I have the requisite equipment to do that. If there was somebody local willing to spend several days filming, editing, and organizing, I am at your disposal.

If you're looking for tips and ideas, don't stop with Clever Bros models, just Google cardstock models, or something like that. Here are some links, a video or two, and some ideas. Note that Clever Bros are frequently listed/linked and obviously one video has a really big Clever Bros fan. Gook luck.

Jim,

I would like to attend your clinic at the upcoming Lakeland show. I checked the club's website. They have posted the time for everything except your clinic. It is a long drive for me so the time would be helpful.
