Discussion > scaling HO o N scale

What is the scaling ratio from HO to N. I tried to find on the web site but can't seem to find it. My first attempt was 48%. but the doors seemed to small.

The rule is: take the scale you HAVE and divide it by the scale you WANT:

87 ÷ 160 = .54375

Move your decimal point over two spaces to the right and you get the percentage:

54%

Thank you for this gem of knowledge. This formula is elegant in its simplicity. Even I will be able to remember it. Thanks ever so much!!!

That's funny. I keep it written in a little notebook in my workspace, because I'm always worried I'll get it backwards!

I do so many HO to N conversions lately that I've memorized 54%.

I've been trying to work out how to calculate scale distances with a slide rule, because I'm geeky that way. I still use an old graphic artist's proportion to figure out some of this stuff, though nowadays, I mostly use a spreadsheet.
