Discussion > HOn30 Train Cars for a Separate Download
Bill,
You can already download the entire contents of the DVD. Click the Get DVDs / Collections button. I believe it's the second from the bottom in the list. You have a choice of either. $29.95 is a good price (in my opinion) even if all you want is the HOn30.

Hi, I didn't know you did that. I am trying to get some of the HOn30 yahoo group interested in trying you card stock rolling stock models. This might help for the members outside the US.

Bill, for what it's worth, I was never able to get the chassis to work on the HOn30 cars - no good way to mount the trucks and couplers without resorting to adding plastic or metal pieces to back up the paper. A friend of mine has put his 3D design prowess to work and will soon make available through Shapeways a complete basic under frame that should resolve this problem. He also has designed and made available freight and passenger trucks which use Micro-Trains or Fox Valley 36" N scale wheelsets. If you go on Shapeways look up the designer Rich Brungard to see his designs. Rich got all excited when he found he could download the Clever rolling stock designs and within an hour had come up with the design of an under frame to resolve the problems I had. As soon as its available I intend to order some so I can finish the cars I've started.

Hi Thom and Dave Rarig,
Thom, I would like to build your B&O Boxcab and I am sure I could get a couple others to build one also.
Dave Rarig, I have seen the flat car that Rich is working on. If you look at the flatcar I posted pictures of you will notice that I use a piece of plastic between the Card Stock floor of the flatcar and the bottom Card Stock piece. I glue a 4-40 nut to the bottom to use as a bolster and screw a 4-40 plastic screw to hold the trucks to it. I trim the top end of the plastic screw so it doesn't show and stops under the card stock floor of the flatcar. I also stick a piece of weight between the trucks. I use more weight on the car floor if I can hid it.
I am getting ready to make one of the Clever Models tank cars but will try it with an N scale tank. I will modify the floor as necessary and post some pictures on the HOn30 yahoo group.

Hey Guys,
It's been a while since I checked, but I'm pretty sure there is a chassis already on Shapeways. It's actually a flatcar frame and an insert for truss-rods, bolsters, etc.
When I build the cars, in HOn30, I typically make a bolster out or 3 layers of shirt cardboard, soaked in thin ACC. Make the cardboard like plastic. I drill and tap it, no problem. I also usually put some .015" steel sheet between the deck and underside layers for weight.

Thanks for the info, Dave. When I started building these I was still driving truck so I had no access to a lot of my hobby tools and supplies and was attempting to do a complete build in the cab of my truck with just what was in the "kit". I did not have access to drills, or taps or sheet plastic or plywood and certainly not metal. Comments on your build methods would certainly have helped me, had there been any instructions included with the kits.

Was there ever a passenger car done

I have several started as well sd commuter and trolley cars but abandoned them because the interiors would have been (were) too challenging for the average builder.

Could I suggest you post one without an interior and let the modeler add it with castings this would add a little weight to the car and make it track better

Not a bad point Paul. I'll give it some thought. I am planning on getting back to it soon.

Would you consider a separate "Download" for just the HOn30 train model kits? It would save "other then US customers" expensive postage and other taxes on the CD's they now would have to pay. They might buy the download's.
