Discussion > Suggestions for Santa Fe Tin Shingles

I'm scratch building an HO scale ATSF standard Sand House c1911 that calls for "Cortright" metal shingles. Any recommendations on what to portray that material with?

Well Jack, we'd like to help but have no idea what they look like. Have any pix? Did a search and got no hits.

I just Googled them, and made a texture sheet (in the style of, and with apologies to, Clever Models.)

Sorry for opening a can of worms with this, but there are a number of attested designs for metal roof shingles: http://embossedtinshingle.com/Articles/Metal_shingle_designs.html

A structure that I want to model, a restored depot, has metal roof shingles that I haven't matched to any of the ones linked above: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:OldDepotNWview(cropped).jpg (I have a better photo of the shingles, but it isn't on-line and I can't include it here.)

The Cortright Oriental design would do, however: http://www.tinroofinghome.com/2014/12/cortright-metal-shingles-oriental.html

So, I'm a likely second customer for a texture sheet with that design. I appreciate all that you have done for the hobby, and know you have other priorities, so I'll wait quietly and hope you find time to do something about this at some point.

It's an interesting enough type of shingle that I haven't seen before so I will do a couple of patterns. But please don't have me do it then say you dont like the pattern. I like the shield and the "Y" emboss.
Thank ypu for sharing the research.
Color? weathered/ rusted etc.?

The shield pattern (Cortright Oriental) apparently was popular a century ago, and still in production today, so it would be a good choice and one I would use. The depot I want to model has a bright metal (silver?) color. I could use any color, though, and paint as needed.

The Sand House I am modeling is from a 1911 ATSF Standard Design, but I'm building it to look like it was in the around 1950. I'm thinking the building would be about 20 years old. So clearly a weathered look bust not overly rusted out would work for me. I have a couple black & white photos, but no close-ups.

I've ordered a tin shingle from eBay, in flor de lis style, and I posted a photo of mine on the Clever models Facebook page. Funny thing is, at the time it come in the mail, I had no idea you were coming out with these new tin shingle textures.
