Discussion > Reversing Images

I have been working with the "Company House" kit. I've "unwrapped" it to make a backdrop structure ( 1/2 width ). I was wondering if there is a way to reverse the image pieces (sides with doors and windows) so that this kit could be assembled in a mirrored version. I was thinking of assembling the regular and the mirror together to make a small duplex house.

Thanks for any input on this project!

No expert here, but some possibilities if you don't have Adobe to edit .pdf files directly:

1. If you can open the .pdf, you should be able to take a snapshot by clicking the "Edit" tab and "Take a snapshot". Drag the cursor from top left to bottom right and release -- you should get a message "The selected area has been copied". Make sure the FULL sheet is part of the snapshot to try to maintain correct scale. The snapshot can be pasted in Word document by opening Word and pressing "Ctrl" and "V" at the same time (paste). The Word document needs to be in landscape and margins set to 0 (zero) all the way around. Use the "Page Layout" tab and then "Orientation" and "Margins"; you'll get a message about being out of the print area, but click "ignore". If you drag a corner of the snapshot so the picture fills the whole page, you should be good with scale. In Word, make sure you've clicked on the picture/snapshot so a "Picture Tools" tab has appeared. Click on "Picture Tools", "Rotate", "Flip Horizontal". That should do it.

2. Same thing, but use Paint instead of Word. I am not as confident about scaling with Paint. But "Rotate" and "Flip Horizontal" should do the same thing for you.
3. Try "Print Screen" (or "PrtScn" on my keyboard") and paste into Word (same format as 1, above). Make sure "Picture Tools" tab is available by clicking on picture and "Crop" the picture to only include what you see in the .pdf. Pull a corner to cover full page. Rotate and flip horizontal as before.

There seems to be a bit of loss of definition using the Snapshot approach, maybe not so much with Print Screen. But any of these are pretty simple to try and check it out.

If I have missed what you are trying to do, my apologies. But, the great thing about the Clever Bros' models is you can try and fail, try and fail, and try again until it works for you. Lots of options. I'm sure someone has a more "professional" approach, but I'm just a simple modeler.

Good luck however you approach it.

Many printers have reverse image option. Check yours. That is a very simple sway to do what your are wanting to do.

As a follow up to my prior post: The reverse image function is often hidden, and takes some exploration to find it. And it may help to have Adobe Reader. (free download) On my Epson, for example, on the screen that comes up when you click PRINT, there are two rectangles at the lower left, one of which says PRINTER. When you click on it, it opens the PRINT DIALOG screen. Looking around it carefully one finds a square marked FLIP IMAGE HORIZONTALLY which when checked reverses the image.
