Discussion > My First Paper Model

I had never really considered working with paper for modeling until I came across an article in the 2017 On30 Annual on building "Sebastian's" using textures from Clever models. I liked the finished result so well that I decided to build a potato barn using your Illinois Stone texture.

Actually, the model is a hybrid, utilizing several different modeling methods. The walls are made from dollar store foam core, the doors are scratchbuilt from wood, the windows are from Tichy Train Group and the chimney is scratchbuilt from styrene. This model was inspired by an article in the July 2020 issue of Model Railroader on creating mortar rubble walls. I print all of my textures on 110 lb. cardstock, let them dry thoroughly (at least a couple of days) and then give them a couple of light coats of a matte finish such as Dullcote or Krylon Clear Matte. This way, I don't have to worry about the printer ink being smudged by water-based glues.

Anyway, I just wanted to say "Thanks" for this great modeling resource and that I'm planning on more paper models in the future.

Sincerely,
Fred Klein

Dave, thanks for the heads-up. A picture is on its way via email. Again, thanks for a great modeling resource. Can't say enough good things about it.
