Discussion > New kits you would like to see

We still have a lot of work ahead of us wile we convert our kits to the CD or DVD format. However I design new kits constantly because it's a big part of my hobby. Since I'm designing all the time, what would you like to see us add to our line?

Thom,

Of course, since I model the southwestern US in On30, I am always looking for good false-front buildings, wooden porches, and the like. I think a real challenge might be to make something that looks like adobe! I would guess that maybe something similar to the Jefferson Ice House with a stucco covering might do the trick. Anyway, some western style buildings would be wonderful. Keep up the good work.

Hi Jim, I am working on a couple western buildings. McElders cycles and Hoosier mama's pies are almost the same building but McElders is on a raised foundation with a loading dock. I also have a nice "cannery" which is wood frame and suitable for out west.
I'll post some pix when i get back to Chicago.
adobe would be interesting. I'll have to try it.

Hi, Thom.

In response to your question about possible future projects, I would like to see some company houses finished in Insulbrick and Insulstone.

This was a very common retrofit for old wooden houses in coal country and I don't know of any available models illustrating this type of re-siding.

Jim, on our neighborhood disk there are 6 different color company houses. 3 of them are insulbrick plus some garages which are also insulbrick. We also have 4 different colors of insulbrick texture sheets.
I think that should cover it.

Hi Thom:

I'll renew my plea for urban row housing. You could do two story modest buildings, ala North Phila, or four storey town houses, ala Boston or New York. This is still an unfilled niche. These buildings got modified over the last 150 years, including commercial store fronts, so the basic building will support variations. Cities have long rows of these, so modelers will need more than one!

OK, I give up, when can I get O Scale disks. By the way, a lot of us don't use Paypal because it is skewed toward the Vendor and slights the Purchaser when it comes to disputes. This was first pointed out by an astute observer of Paypal's eary track record on eBay and I personally was an almost victum of Paypals policys. What's wrong with plain old Visa, Mastercard etc.

Bobby, Credit cards are evil...seriously, they charge too much to process. we have no problem with personnel checks. You might also ask your local hobby store to stock our disks. Paypal will process credit cards from non members.

We had a couple of interesting requests for new kits.
A large modern mine. Lots of sheet metal and concrete.
and a roundhouse. I'm intrigued but if you all would like toi offer opinions. please do.

The roundhouse would be intriguing but immense! Just thinking about that John Allen 2-stall affair, the work would be tremendous but worth the effort. Personally, I don't need much more for my On30 layout but some of the Class 1 railroaders might be interested, especially in HO.

I'm intrigued too. Weather or not that a good thing, is the question. It would be enormous. i think what I would do is a two stall segment that people could expand as they pleased.
I'm working on a overhead crane thats going really well. Our steel girder bridge was a big hit in Indianapolis.
The western buildings are pretty much done. i saw some on a narrow gage layout at the show that were really narrow and liked the style so i'll have to explore that as well.

I would like to see a large New England style textile mill. The Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) is a great on-line resource with many pictures and scale drawings.

I'll look into it Jeff

I am looking forward to seeing your models of the narrow gauge freight cars. And I would love to see some docks or warfs. Perhaps even a small fishing or work boat.

I think I would like to see some free standing models that aren't buildings like bridges. Also some building interiors wold be nice.
