Discussion > Just Purchased Bricks & Mortar

Oh Boy ! I just purchased Bricks and Mortar today as a Christmas Present, I figured that when Bricks and Motar II is released I should have the first one. I'm looking forward to building these kits, I enjoyed building the Crossing Tower although my job was nothing to brag about but the nice thing is I can build it again !
One question that I have about the Crossing Tower.......... when you overlaid the outside boards I cut them out as one assembly, it was a real pain to get it to fold correctly and glued into place. Any ideas or suggestions?

PS I would post a pic but I don't know how to do that.

Thanks in Advance

Steven, Even thought it's layed out to fold I would recommend that you cut the walls apart and then glue them back together. I often find my self cutting things apart and piecing them back together. I think most experienced builders ignore the tabs and folds.

Thom's advice is "spot on". When I do my cardstock models, even though the piece is printed as a single entity, I cut out each of the pieces, board-by-board, edge paint each board, and then overlay them. It might be tedious but the end product is well worth the effort. Although I haven't built the crossing tower, the board and batten would take a long time, but I suspect that it would come out looking really fine if it were done that way. Don't be afraid to cut off a tab if it doesn't seem to be needed and don't be afraid to create one when you think there is a use for it.

Thanks for the input, being a novice to building cardstock models everything you guys say is really appriciated. The nice thing is I can build and rebuild and its just plain fun. I'm currently working on a project for my christmas O scale layout of my mother-in-laws childhood home, I have built it twice already. I keep hearing "Now thats not exactly how it looked......... you need to make it (fill in the blank). I've started a third home and the other two were last seen involved in a horrific tornado that smoched them into balls and landed in the Tulsa LandFill !
