In Memoriam, Joe Giannovario

We would just like to take a moment to express our deepest sympathy to the Giannovario family, in the passing, Saturday, of Joe.  Besides publishing a great magazine, he was a good friend.  He will be greatly missed.

Follow up to the Small layout Design meet in Findlay OH

Below is a link to some pix from the meet we just got back from in Findlay OH.

https://sites.google.com/site/smalllayoutdesignmeet2013/

By the way, as you scroll down the pictures, you will see a highly animated one of me.  (Looks like I’m getting ready to flap my arms and get out of there.)  That layout is for sale.  Price to be negotiated.  In other words, make an offer.  It is Thom’s HOn30 layout that you have seen in stills and video before.  It is being replaced by the new smaller (more easily transported) HOn30 pike that you have seen glimpses of in this blog.  Size is 6’ x 3’.  Separates into 3 pieces.  All the Structures (except the original enginehouse that we started the business with) and landscaping included.  Minimum radius is 5”.  Power is straight DC.  All sidings are double gapped so adding DCC is no problem.   If you are interested, contact Thom at <tanimate@gmail.com>.

Findlay notes and contest closing.

First!  The name the download contest is officially closed.  We got an amazingly large number of names.  Don’t know if we will actually use one of them or still think about it a while.  We will, however, declare winners, no matter what we end up doing.  Probably take us a good week to decide.

The Small Layout Design Group get-together in Findlay Ohio, was better than I expected.  I’ll probably post some pix soon, but from the 15 or so layouts/dioramas that were there to the live steam outside the museum, it was a great time.

Everybody had fun running and talking about model trains and layouts and how and why they built what they built.

Next year is already being planned.

Name the download contest

Hi all.  For some time now, we have been wanting to make the contents of entire DVD’s available as downloads.  We will be doing just that in a very short time, BUT FIRST, we need to figure out what to call this wonderfull product.  Can’t really call it a DVD Download cause, in the end, you don’t really get a DVD.  Well, the solution, I think, is to ask all of our paper family out there to come up with a name for this marvelous product.  Basically, all of the DVD’s which we currently have available, and all future ones, will become available as individual downloads.  For instance, the WOOD DVD will be a download, the STEEL DVD will become a download.  You get the picture.  Prices will probably remain the same.  Might come down a bit, since I am saving some labor and materials.  Average download size will be between 150MB to 400MB.  (So a good, fast connection is needed.  Usually not a problem now-a-days.)  We plan on rolling this feature out over the next few months.  Probably 2-3 DVD’s per month.  Depends on if we run into any unforeseen ISSUES.

Well, anyway,  Thom and I will select a winner, soley on whatever strikes our fancy.  Our goal is to pick the name within the next TWO WEEKS.  The winner of the contest will receive 75% off of all downloads for a week.  The top 5 runner ups will receive 25% off for the same time.

So give us a hand and NAME the DOWNLOAD!

You can use the CONTACT page or send me emil directly to <mize1@sbcglobal.net>.  Good Luck!
