here's the O scale Habbaker's

So now you get to see both ends of the spectrum. Brother Dave just finished the testbuild for Habbaker’s.

His usual fabulous job.

So, David, how long did it take to build this beauty? I'm fascintated by how clean the build looks, and can't find ANYTHING to nit pick! These kind of photos get me fired-up to want to be at my hobby desk building kits until I drop!

I encourage you to take these kinds of pictures for all your builds, there is nothing better than looking at these pictures and not want to build a model. I have Habbakers Garage but I haven't started it yet. Photos like this make me want to start it now!

It is our intention to photograph everything and include it on all the disks as well as here.

Hi Everyone. Dave here. Because I try to make models that show you what is possible, I often throw things away and start over. The pix hide a lot of blemishes. I know where they are, but I hope you never figure out where they are. I also take a lot of liberties. I know exactly what I can and cannot get away with. On this model, the bottom step went crooked at the last second, just as the glue grabbed, so I left it. Once the model is on my layout, no one will know. But, to answer your question, I probably put 30-40 hours into this build. It's hard to say, as I was also working on White Castle's at the same time. Oh, and now that some nice clean pix have been shot, I will definitely "crud it up" when it gets to the layout. Everything that you will see from 1st. Street is still waiting for some DulCoat, so you may see a bit of glue here and there. That's why I like using ACC. It absolutely disappears, once you put on some flat finish.

Dave, thanks, very useful comments. I really didn't have a gauge of how long it typically takes to build these kits. I was beginning think I had become too obssesive about making everything absolutely 150% perfect, thus taking a lot of time to build these things. In building the "box of sticks" kits, I've caught myself doing the same thing, and finally saying 'good enough', nobody will see my mistakes, and they don't. I only know the 'truth'! I was watching an oil paint artist being interviewed last night on TV, and he admitted he's not usually satisfied with his finished work, until some point later, when he looks at his completed work, he'll say to himself, 'yeah, that's pretty good, I like it'. Funny, but I'll do the same thing, and forget about the small flaws. Dulcoat is great stuff, it covers up those glue leaks!
