White Castle

This is the one that’s holding things up. Totally my fault. Dave makes them look good no matter what junk I give him. What was I thinking with that huge vent?

I agree. It is pretty monolithic! What a nice model though. One thing to look at: do the brown bricks in the back line up course for course with the white bricks? I think they should, architecturally speaking.

I would be very tempted to reduce the size of the vent. Maybe even have two if they were small enough.
When the image is blown up it is clear that the white and brown brick courses are different. As is the size of the brick and the style (bond?) in which they are laid. My solution would be to make the back wall in two layers with the white brick over the brown.

The ability to do these kinds of mods is a big advantage of using ones own printer.

I like the idea of a white layer over the brown. That is how they might have done it in real life too. The white bricks are probably just a veneer over the full size structural brick. Good idea!

As you suspect, the white is a glazed white veneer tile that was laid over whatever was underneath. This building is just one type of construction. Not all of the real buildings were built that way. Some were, some weren't. The kit actually has the entire wall as one layer, but as I always say, the beauty of printing your own kits is that you can make enough pieces to do whatever you want. Actually, when I built this prototype, I didn't follow the planned footprint exactly. I have a spot, on my layout where this building is going to go, so I "slightly" changed the footprint to suit my location. The only difference is that the side wall to the right of the entrance is pushed out a bit. Normally, it just goes back directly from the edge of the pillaster. The wall layout is clearly shown in the kit, so I don't think anyone will be confused.

Oh, I forget to mention that there are two vents included in the kit. Thom is diligently working on reducing them by 50%. They will look much better. When I have some time, I will replace the vent on this building. We planning to begin shipping the discs next week. Thanks everyone for your patience.

Thom,

I did a search on the net for photos of White Castle buildings starting from 1921 to present. Not one showed a vent even close to your model. You have captured the esence of the building as is. You need to do a wrap and ship.
