Live chat

It’s been proposed that we start a live chat. we don’t currently have that capability but other forums do

Free rails and whistlepost would be likely places to meet. The big issue is, when? We have active modelers all over the world. So lets start a discussion about interests and times. I think its a great idea, what say you?

I suggest a live podcast, perhaps once a month, done on Skype? On the order of something like Model Rail Radio but devoted to card and paper modeling. I am not sure of all of the technology but creating a group chat (no video just audio) is relatively simple. A Friday or Saturday starting at about 4pm Eastern?

I think for starters we will hijack one of the existing chats. either Free rails or whistlepost. If there's interest we can look at setting something up of our own. i have to look at my own schedule and see when I can consistently do this. Feel free to start spreading the word. This week, Friday or Sunday might work. How about early in the day? Before people get busy.

Personally I prefer to read texts, posts, or blogs whenever the mood strikes me. Sometimes it is the middle of the night, sometimes early morning, etc. So I am unlikely to participate in a live chat. But then I still prefer magazines printed on paper, so maybe I am not your prime audience.

I am inclined to agree with Bob Bruce. I would much rather see a forum to post comments or upload photos of our work in a manner that allows each member to contribute in a practicale time frame.

Of course the forum should be restricted to paper models pertaining to model railroads.

I have to go along with the last two posts. My preference would be to read posts at my leisure and not feel obligated to be in front of the computer at an assigned time. I usually visit once a day to see what's new. John

I also prefer the blog format, which I can read on my own schedule. I don't participate in any live chat sessions regardless of the topic. I'd rather play with my kids or build models. Given the relative small size of this community, I have to wonder if the effort in organizing this would be worth the time.

A set time for using the Whistle Post chat makes sense to me. The problem with using Skype is that it requires a lot of time and effort. NOT the Skype session but what it takes to record and edit the session. A three hour Skype session might require that SOMEONE listen to it three or four times .. editing etc. Just something to think about.
