Bob beat me to it

Bob Bruce sends this hotel kit bashed from parts. I’m doing something very similar but I like what Bob’s done here.  Can you tell us more about whats here Bob?

Here is where the materials came from: The siding, doors, window frames, and trim came from Kirks Books. Some of the Kirks trim was printed at 150% to get it large enough. The porch floor is the Cannery loading dock, laminated on grey chipboard and distressed at the front edge. The steps came from scraps of the same loading dock. The foundation came from the Western Building, as did the chimneys, which were printed end to end to make them taller. The stove pipe on the rear is from the rusty tin roofing, again printed at 150% to get large enough rusty strips. The sign pole is paper wrapped around a cheap artists brush (20 for a dollar, or some such) to get the taper. The roofing, which you can't see in the picture, is tar paper from the furniture factory.

Once you have bought a few kits (or texture sheets) mixing and matching can create endless possibilities!

I forgot to add that the white parts are all plain card stock, including the railing. I did the railing to see if I could do it, then needed a building to put it on! -Bob

Very nice building and image Bob, but most useful were your comments. For a newbie like myself, these are very helpful and encourageing. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.

Sincerely:

Hi Bob,

a great model. What scale is it? H0 or 0?

How did you get the word HOTEL in what looks like faded white on the false front?

Bob,

Great model. I am also doing a hotel using Clever clapboard and windows. However I am using Grantline railings for the porch. Oh, my model is in HO scale. What scale is yours?

Thanks for posting.

This model is O scale. (For smaller scales I might be tempted to use Grant Line railings) -Bob

The more of this caliber of work I see, the more I believe that in the not too distant future MOST scratchbuilding will be printed cardstock based. The models look phenomenal when done 'right' and I think look even better than traditional materials. Of course, the graphic art is key and the brother's Clever have this part figured out pretty well. It is great that they provide their materials for others to use in scratch building applications.

Very nice model!

The model arrived here at the Clever models secret base and it is even better in person. It arrived in perfect shape due to Bob's expert packing. The box exterior was soaking wet and disintegrating as I unpacked it fearing the worst. but being completely encapsulated in foam it was dry as dust..
The interior pieces are well thought out and it's just an outstanding model. We will do our best to make it an outstanding kit.
