New pix from Bob Bruce

Bob sends his build of “Smitty’s” for our enjoyment. Over time Bob has sent lots of stunning kit bashes culminating in the “bruce hotel/hotel columbia”. Well this smitty’s is almost stock with his usual clean exceptional build. Thanks Bob

Nice work, Bob. Plus your model photos are always so warm with that nice tan backdrop. Is the backdrop craft paper?

Yes, Jim, the photo background is kraft wrapping paper off a roll. Cheap seamless!
The model is O scale
The turret looked empty so it has a card stock rocking chair inside.

Hi Bob. What did you use for the awnings? I think they are much better than what is included in the kit.

Dave; The awnings are printed card stock. I changed them to make them appropriate for an earlier period.
They are flat & folded; the apparent shape is printed shadow & highlight.

That's dead brilliant! Thanks for the great idea.

It looks like you use at least two sources to light your models to photograph. Can you tell us anything about that? Love the craft paper backdrop. Thanks!

Jim;
For these photos I used two outdoor reflector spots (R-30'S ?) in sockets about 6' apart,
3' above, and 2' in front of the subject. The lamps are on swivels so they can be aimed
on, behind, or in front of the model (or bounced off the ceiling) Photographers would not
like the color of the light, but I diddle with exposure until I am happy with it. Again a very
basic low cost set up. Sometimes I use a third light in front for fill but was too lazy this time.

Thanks very much, Bob. Keep it simple, right? I'm going to give your rig a try!
